The Secret Salt Spring

I had a lot of fun with this painting that ties into my family and the area around my hometown of Linesville, Pa. About 200 years ago, the local Indians had a heavily guarded salt spring in the Pymatuning swamp where they boiled down the salt water and scraped out the salt residue into bags for trade.  I am sure that my 4th great grandfather, Amos Line, was doing business with them.  He was trading and selling from his store at that time.  For over a 130 years, hunters and trappers searched for the spring but never found it, and today its location is lost forever beneath waters of Pymatuning Lake.
