After the tumultuous period of the 18th century, much of life had changed for the Native people. However, some aspects of the “old ways” persisted well into the modern era. Lightweight canoes for example, remain an ideal method of travel through the small waterways of the northeast woodlands. Native birchbark canoe-makers still produce the beautiful vessels to this day.
