Family

The house was the center of family life. The longhouses of the Haudenosaunee held the large extended Clan family. Seasonal activities like trapping, hunting or harvest time would keep portions of the family away from home, but at certain times, the entire clan family would be together in the home. The midday meal made the tight bonds of family even stronger. Organized by the women of the family, these special meals were a time for sharing stories and enjoying life. Everyone contributed to the event and shared in the bounty of family.
