Camp at Bear Rocks

In the late spring, Seneca families would begin the journey south to the roosting grounds of the passenger pigeons. Bear Rocks was a perfect location to camp along the way to the pigeon grounds. Entire families would pack up their kettles and bedrolls to travel to the roosting grounds. Camp leaders would arrange the times of travel, and establish the locations for each family to make their temporary homes. Boys and girls would bring along bows to shoot the birds from the dense flocks but the real treasures were the squabs which people feasted on for weeks after the pigeons had gone.
