They had soundly vanquished Custer's 7th Cavalry, but the war chiefs and medicine men knew the U.S Army with its cannons and Gatling guns would not let matters rest. With the ominous cloud hanging over the triumph, the Indians began their retreat southward with their families and the wounded. |
